Second-Ever Memorial Day Weekend Jamboree-palooza!

Last year for Memorial Day Weekend, we rented a house on Lake LBJ with our friends. This year, the house we rented was on a 130-acre ranch in Wimberley. It was beautiful!

Some highlights of our weekend:

San Antonio Zoo

Since we had such a great time at the San Antonio Zoo last year for Nic's birthday, we decided to go again this year. Maybe this will be an annual event???

Before we even made our way into the zoo, we had to ride the train through the park, not once but twice. Nico absolutely loves anything to do with trains and insisted that we ride it again.

(Some of these pictures were taken with the iphone so quality isn't good.)

These pictures were taken in the tunnel, and Nico's face cracks me up.

"Whew! Outta the tunnel!"

At first, Nico was afraid to approach the hippo, but once he saw me safely touch the glass, Nico got brave.

Nico also wasn't sure what to think about the birds. Look at that face! Big change from our visit last year.

Checking out the flamingos

Standing like a flamingo

Crossing the lily pads to the splash park

We wised up and put his swimsuit on.

Heading out after a fun day at the zoo.

Then, like last year, we went to Mi Tierra's for dinner.

Trying to figure out why his balloon is no longer in the air!

Schlitterbahn

When I was younger, every summer my family would go to Schlitterbahn Water Park. I remember being about 5 years old and scared to go on the big-kid rides. As I grew older (and probably no longer wanted to be seen at a water park with my parents), my friends and I got season passes and would hang out at the park all day. Finally, in high school, the day came when my friends and I were old enough to work at the park. We were life guards for two years and it was two of the best summers of my life! (Can't believe that was already half my lifetime ago! Seems like yesterday.)

Now, it is my turn to take Nico and introduce him to Schlitterbahn. I think it is neat that he is able to experience the same park that I did at almost the same age. Funny, he's just like his mom. He was very cautious of the rides and afraid to go on the big-kids rides. Heck ... there's a ride that I'm still scared to go on. (I did it, and it was fun, but I was a little scared.)

The park is so large that we didn't get to do everything. Can't wait to go back and explore more with Nico.

Having a blast on the kiddie slides!

"Ooooo ... that's cold!"

Nico's good gal-pal Maya got in on the fun.
