Nico's first swim

Nico is a natural water baby. He loves swimming! This is going to be a fun summer ...

Getting ready to swim!

"Ah, life is good!"

Mmmmm ... Yummy!

At 5 months old, we started Nico on solids. First, we tried rice cereal ...

He didn't know what to think.

Not too crazy about the cereal.

After a few tries, Nico got better at eating.
(And we got better at feeding!)

Next, we tried squash. The squash is fresh from Nonni's garden.
I steamed and pureed it, and he loved it!

"This is better than cereal."

"Can I have more?"

"Mmmm ... squash!"

(Yes, some of these pictures were taken in the bathroom. Nico loves watching himself in the mirror. Also, it makes clean-up a lot easier!)

Then, we tried sweet potato, which I also steamed and pureed. This is Nico's favorite so far. He can't get enough!

Licking the bowl!

Sweet potato face

"Mmmm ... I love sweet potatoes!"

Next, we'll try carrots and avacado. Stay tuned ...

Daddy's Birthday

The day before Nic's actual birthday, we had a bar-b-que with a few friends. Happy birthday daddy!

5 Months

Last week, Nico turned five months old. It is amazing how much the little guy changes and develops month-to-month. This past month, Nico found his feet and he loves to play with them. If his big belly wasn't in the way, they'd be in his mouth, because everything goes in his mouth.

Speaking of big bellies, Nico went to the doctor last week for a cough/congestion, and he weighed 19 pounds, 13 ounces! This is while feeding him breast milk only! Last month, the doc said his weight gain would slow down ... I think he's proving her wrong.

This past month, Nico has really learned to play with the gadgets on the ExerSaucer. Before, he would just hit them, but now, he's learning how to turn, push, and pull the toys. He also has befriended the dogs, which makes them very happy. He'll smile when he sees them and reach out to touch them. I can't wait until they can entertain each other.

I just can't believe how fast time goes by and how much Nico's growing. I'm trying so hard to remember every moment and take it all in. I treasure the sweet moments we have, like when he's nursing and holds my hand, or when he snuggles into my chest to fall asleep and I don't want to put him down.

At 5 months, Nico likes:
watching basketball with dad
being outside
chewing on anything and everything
looking at himself in the mirror
being on his back
playing in the Exersaucer
watching ceiling fans and lights
looking at Kyla & Parker
watching his mobile

Nico dislikes:
being in the car seat
getting dressed for bed
being on his tummy
having his nose suctioned or sprayed (duh!)

Mother's Day

I've always loved Mother's Day. I like the time of year, I like being with my family, and I like spoiling my mom and thanking her for everything she does for me. So, this being my first Mother's Day, I was really looking forward to celebrating.

Last year, Mother's Day was extra special because Nic and I told our families that we were expecting a little one. It's so hard to believe that a year has come and gone and our little one is here celebrating the day with us!

Nic and Nico made my first Mother's Day so special by spoiling me rotten ... flowers, cards, lunch, and a fabulous present! After the boys showered me with gifts, we met my parents at the Salt Lick for lunch. My mom even gave me a pretty plant in a homemade pot that she said was from Nico.

As the day was winding down and I thought it couldn't get any better, Nico sat up for the first time with out toppling over ... what a great gift! I feel so lucky to be Nico's mama!

"Look mom! I'm sittin' up!"

"Yep ... I'm really doin' it! Concentrate ..."

Thanks Mom!

Nic and I want to wish our moms a happy Mother's Day. Thank you for all that you do for us. We love you!

(Aren't our moms beautiful and aren't we cute?)

Iron Chef and A-List Actress

Nic and I both have very talented and creative siblings. I'd like to think I'm creative, but compared to these two, I'm about as creative as a jellyfish (Nic's comparison).
Nic's sister, Charlotte, has lived and worked in New York City for the past four years. She has studied acting and recently got a gig advertising a new Bravo show called The Fashion Show.
To see her ad, go to Competition is the New Black and play the Dress-Up Game.

My brother, Brandon, graduated from Culinary Arts school last summer and was recently named Sous Chef at a fine dining restuarant in downtown Ft. Worth called Grace. A few weeks ago, he compteted in the Dallas Food and Wine Festival - Rising Stars Chefs' Competition and he won 2nd place! This is a huge honor for him, as the other winners have all been in the industry for years.
My parents were able to attend the awards dinner at the Mansion on Turtle Creek where Brandon was honored and had the privilege of preparing his dish.

Chef Jacques hard at work on his dish.

His winning dish - King Crab Salad with Pea Puree,
Spiced Cream Fraiche and Citrus Buerre Blanc on Endive

Congrats Charlotte and Brandon ... please don't forget us when you are rich and famous!
We love you!

Mini-me

Does Nico look like his daddy?

ExerSaucer Excitement

Thanks to Nico's buddy Cameron, Nico has two ExerSaucers to play with! Nico is having a ball exploring all the gadgets!

Kyla likes it, too. Now, Nico's on her level and she can lick him
when she thinks we aren't looking.
