This year, we had a small family birthday party for Nico and a few neighbors and friends stopped by. We decided to keep it small because of Nico's reaction to the attention at his party last year.
Well, we were right about keeping it small, but we made the mistake of singing
Happy Birthday to the birthday boy. He was not happy about everyone looking at him and singing to him. He burst into tears and buried his head in my chest. After the singing was over, he was fine and had a great time at his party.

The birthday boy!

Nico loves trains and anything Thomas the Tank, so we went with a Thomas theme. I'm not normally big on commercial-themed parties, but Thomas is what makes this 3 year old happy, so Thomas it was.
Our talented neighbor made two dozen Thomas-themed cookies and they were almost too pretty to eat.

Nico pulling the string on his "ben-hanna." It was raining outside, so we had to improvise and do the pinata in the house. Good thing is was a pull-string pinata.

Singing happy birthday

Yep ... those are real tears.

Once the singing was over and Nico had his cookie and cupcake, he was back to being happy.

Aunt Char came all the way from NYC for the big event, and Janny came from Corpus Christi.

The blue icing was a hit!

Garrison licked all of his icing off first.

And, Maya went for the chocolate.

Carter was too busy playing trains to even eat a cupcake!

Saying good-bye and thank you to his buddy Carter.

Birthday hug from our neighbor Garrison

A birthday kiss from Maya!

Happy 3rd birthday sweet boy!
