Back to Blogging

It's been a while, but we're back! Things were a little crazy for a few weeks after we returned from Europe. It took almost a week to get Nico back on Texas time, and then he got sick for a week. Then the following week, Nic and I both caught a stomach bug.
We are finally back to normal -- enjoying the fall weather, football season, and getting ready for Halloween!

Belgium Bound!

We leave for Belgium tomorrow and Nico is excited!

Nico actually started running a fever on Sunday and has been a little fussy (you can't tell from his sweet smile in this pic). Nic took him to the doctor yesterday and she said he's fine, that it could just be the start of a cold. Its crazy ... he didn't get sick for almost eight months but has been sick twice in the past two weeks. That's Murphy's Law!

We'll be in Belgium until August 30 and then we'll head to Zurich, Switzerland. I'll try to do a little blogging while on our trip. I'm sure we'll have plenty of great stories after traveling with an 8 month old!

Keeping Cool

This summer in Texas has been unbearably hot! Last month went down as the hottest month ever recorded! The previous record was set in July 1860. In July, Austin had 26 days with temperatures over 100 degrees. So far, August hasn't been any different. To stay cool, we take Nico swimming or play in water in the back yard.

On the Move

This video was taken last Monday (Aug. 3), the first day Nico started crawling. It is amazing to see how much he has improved in a week. I need to post a new video to show his progress.

Here I come!

I can do it!

Almost there!

Got it!

8 months

This past month was a busy one for Nico. He got two teeth, perfected his sitting, learned to army crawl, and got sick for the first time.

Poor Nico caught a viral cough that required breathing treatments through a nebulizer. We thought the cough was getting better, but a week later, he was still wheezing. Back to the doctor we went and she found that the infection had spread to his ear. Nico gave no indication of an earache, so I think we caught it early. The doc prescribed antibiotics for 10 days, which knocked out both the cough and ear infection. The whole time Nico was sick, he didn't run a fever, fuss or act sick ... his lungs just sounded awful.

Nico's first tooth came in around July 22 and the second one came in about two weeks later. The first tooth caused him some pain for a few days, but luckily, the second one was much easier. He loves sticking his tongue out to feel his new teeth. We have lots of pictures now with that tongue hangin' out.

Nico finally perfected his sitting and actually taught his buddy Carter how to sit. He also figured out how to gracefully get from a sitting stance to his belly. It took a few face plants to figure it out.

Last week, Nico started crawling and now he is all over the place! During his visit, Carter showed off his moves and two days later, Nico was dragging his little legs across the floor, too. Everyday, he gets faster and faster! I don't think it will be long before he's crawling on all fours. He's really trying to get up on those knees, but just can't stay up.

On top of all of this, Nico's personality continues to amaze us and keep us laughing. He's real good at faking being upset so that he'll get attention. He also loves blowing raspberries (or as Nic calls it, "air farts").

Buddies

Nico's buddy Carter came to visit this weekend, and the boys had a blast! Only seven weeks apart, the two are working on accomplishing the same milestones. Carter watched Nico sitting up, so Carter decided it was time to sit up, too. Then, Nico watched Carter army crawl across the room and what do you know ... the next day, Nico was crawling across the room!

These two are so cute together ...
